2nd Day ; Alexandria

On the second day , we went for a longish drive to Alexandria , a seaport facing the Mediterrean Sea . This took 3 hours of driving as Alexandria is about 300 km away from Cairo . We visited the Catacombs of Kom el Shaqafa first.

Sacophagus . Maybe for my garden in Muar ? ? Hehe
Showing the mummification of a body
Drawings depicted at the tombs
More ancient drawings on the tombs . There were 3 tombs

These were part of the Catacombs but were on the ground in an enclosure . Then ,we had to go down a steep flight of steps deep in the catacombs .

Statues before the tombs
Down into the Catacombs , the 3 tombs inside
The Jackal , the God of mummification . This god would be my worst nightmare !
Tomb of a male
This a tomb of a child

There were 3 tombs here ; a male , a female and a child . Who were laid down in these 3 tombs ? According to Rahiyah , female ( Cleopatra ) , male ( Mark Anthony ) , child ( their child ) ,hahaha . Anyway, according to the Guide since there are no heiroglyplhs which is pictorial language so as such , the tombs are probably from a wealthy family but that’s all they can tell.

Took this in a perfume shop in Cairo. I thought this was interesting .
The Roman tombs where Christains were buried . Christains were persecuted by Romans .
Romans were in Egypt for 500 years

After the Catacombs , which I thought was pretty interesting , we went to visit Pompei’s Pillar. This is the site of an ancient temple.
