Edfu Temple by the banks of the Nile

We had spend another night in the boat and reached the town of Edfu . There was a magnificant temple of Edfu which is about 2000 years old . I am finding it difficult to get my head around these 2000 years old thingy . This means like 200x of 100 centuries , the mind just finding it difficult to grasp . The temple is beautifully perserved with etchings out of sandstone. The colors of the etchings have waned due to the debris and mud but the beauty of the Temple remains.

The temple is dedicated to the God Horus

God Horus gives protection so is worshipped by the King and the Egyptian people at that time . He is married to the God , Hathor who is the God of music and something else , cannot remember hahaha .Hathor is the goddess for the city of Dendere.

During those times , there were gods / goddnesses for every city ( local gods ) and the one ultimate god , Ra , the Sun god .

This scene moves on to show the King has the small hippo in chains in thr water and is offered to the God, Horus

The next scene shows the hippo as larger in size as this is as an offering to the God, Horus.

These 2 photos ( but in actuality 1 large etching but I could not capture the whole picture on my mobile camera) shows 7 priests carrying the boat with the King to the After Life . However , if one looks closely , there are folds in the etchings to depict that.there are actually 31 priests carrying the boat .
