The Great Temple of Abu Simbel ( Part 2 )

The second part of the temple consist of a separate temple for Rameses 11 favourite wife Nefartari. This temple which is much smaller lies around 500 metres from the bigger temple .

The temple for his favourite wife
There are only 2 statues of Nefartari, the rest is of Rameses 11
Nefartari , in the middle . She looks beautiful . No wonder favourite Of Rameses 11
Anteater God on the left
Liked this as etchings show a boat to the After Life with papayrus offerings
Offerings of papayrus

This is a smaller temple compared to the other one .Nefartari died and Rameses 11 married 2 of his daughters . All these etchings had heliogyphics which tells the story . So in this way , it is documented .

Hieroglyphic Text

I bought a small book published by the American University of Cairo at Aswan Airport on hieroglyphic text but had no time to really read it .

Numbering system of the Ancient Egyptians

Quite in awe in terms of how civilised the ancient Egyptians and to think they were literate 5,000 years ago and had a written language . This is a great achievement .

Also , bought a book on The Great Temple of Abu Simbel but read that halfway only . So was the 3 hour drive to the Great Temple of Abu Simbel , worth waking up so early ? The answer is a resounding Yes ! The Great Temple of Abu Simbel is magical to visit . Its one of the highlights of our Egyptian trip . Writing this blog at Cairo Airport waiting to board the flight to Doha .
