Muar trip with Ana & Sarah yesterday

I began my trip to Muar with Ana ( my lil sister & her daughter, Sarah ) from Ana’s house in Kota Damansara on Saturday . We had planned to spend a night in Melaka before driving from Melaka to Muar.

We stayed a night at Liu Men Hotel , Jalan Tokong which is in the UNESCO heritage site in Melaka , a short walk to Jonker’s Street .The hotel is a small boutique hotel of 30 rooms only .

The hotel is pleasant and quiet . However, it is not cheap at RM700++ ( including breakfast ) per night but we only stayed 1 night , so that is ok . I do find nice Malaysian hotels to be expensive and does not give value for money unlike Thailand or Indonesia . For example, I have stayed in Majestic Hotel Melaka and that was rm*800++ which is pricey ! However, the Datai at Langkawi is priced at RM2,000++ per night which is out of reach for many Malaysians , I would say . Probably caters for foreign tourists who can afford to pay those prices.

I liked the wall scones and lights in the hotel as above photos so the overall decor was pleasing . Had a colonial & Peranakan vibe to the whole place .

The hotel had no pool or spa facilities but that was fine for us . We did not really have time to use such facilities. We took a walk around Jonker’s Street after we had checked into the hotel. The Saturday night market was on at Jonker’s Street so there were many people walking ,shopping and eating.

Little Chinese Temple nearby which was cute

We had dinner reservations at a local Peranakan restaurant at 8 pm so we took a walk along Jonker’s Street to kill time . There were many tourists . We walked all along Jonker’s Street till Stadhuys and sat down for about 30 minutes , just people watching ha ha ha .

Melaka is lively . The next morning ( Sunday ) I drove using the old road from Melaka to Muar which took about 1 hour . I was able to park my car at the house porch as I had the key for the automated gate . Alas, we were unable to get into the house as the SMART front door was locked from the inside by the grillers . I did not have the keys to the grill so when the men came to put in the grills ,they locked everything from the inside . Ana & Sarah could only peer from outside the windows of the house to look into the house . However, we managed to get into the Rumah Kebun as I had the keys to these. The door of the Rumah Kebun has a grill but I had a key for that because the grilled door is an original grill door and not new unlike the ones in the house . I left Sarah in the Rumah Kebun while we went to Muar town to do errands . Sarah was happy to be left in the Rumah Kebun because there was Internet , AC plus a ceiling fan and a toilet in the Rumah Kebun .

I managed to submit documents on the house at the Muar Town Council and pay for quit rent for the house . I also, manage to buy electrical items for the house at the local electrical shop at Jalan Abdullah , which I consider the main drag of Muar town ha ha ha.

We left Muar at around 4 pm but before that since , we missed out lunch, we stopped at Tanjung Agas to have the infamous Muar Mee Bandung Udang Galah.

We left Muar around 4 pm . The traffic was reasonably good along the PLUS highway back to KL so managed to get back to Ana’s house by 7.30 pm. That ends the trip to Muar this weekend . I will probably have to go back again to Muar after Chinese New Year in February but let’s see how the dates are in terms of my schedule . I need to get the blinds up in the frontage of the house before I can transfer furniture items from my Dad’s house in PJ to Muar .
