Chaing Rei – Day 2

Went to long-necked village to see whats its all about . Had to pay an entrance fee of baht 1000 equivalent to rm133 !!! Hmmm.. this is to support the Hmong people who came into this part of Thailand ages ago from Burma. Thiru is not comfortable walking around the village .. The villagers just sell items either that they have made or from elsewhere .

Thiru bought a wooden carved doll made by this lady . They weave as well.

Then we went to Siam Celadon to look at ceramics . Went a bit mad looking at the ceramics so was refrained but bought a few small items . Just have to think on how to carry the ceramics !

We proceeded to Chaing Rei to visit the White Temple .

Dosen’t it look surreal ?
Very hot as you can see as I am wearing a hat .
Even the fishes were not ordinary ones !!

The white Wat was glistening in the sun because the Wat was made up of glass panes of some kind . I am kinda nonplussed as to describe this Wat. It is smaller than I thought it was in size.

Macabre , ain’t it ? One of the lamp post at the exit gate . Seems to be like purgatory , I guess.

I need to read on the White Wat to the symbolic meanings of it all.

More ” purgatory ” stuff haha

The gardens surronding the temple are manicured .

They keep all these lovely trees
The waves , kinda nice topiary
Yin & Yang symbol
Cannon ball tree in the compound

The drive took us 2.5 hours to and another 2.5 hours back. However, the White Temple is one of the ” must sees ” if one is coming to Chaing Mai .

To end the day ,mango sticky rice !! Yums !!
