Weekend in Miri

Went for a short weekend in Miri to attend a private memorial for my late friend Florence Enau . Sadly , she had passed away last year . However, her only daughter from the U.S.A and family was only able to fly over to Miri this year to settle probate matters besides having a memorial for her late mother. I had to take a 8.30 am flight to Miri on Saturday. I stayed overnight at Lesley’s in Miri. I could not have taken the Friday flight as I had an online class till 10 pm on Friday night . It was too much of a hassle to change the timing of the class with the students for that Friday.

Went to the memorial at St. Columba’s Church , its an Anglican church . Went with Lesley and it lasted for an hour which was fine . The church had AC so that was comfortable . They sang hymns and one of the hymns was ” Amazing Grace ” which I did know was a church hymn . Rather nice for the congregation to sing that . There was a sermon by Father Augustin which I listened to. Ha ha ha, I do not listen to the sermons by the ulamaks though. The gist of the sermon was a belief in the After-Life , not so different from what is taught in Islam. Afterwards , there was a reception with refreshments being served . Met a few people that I knew in Miri . I had lived and worked in Miri for two years from year 2005-2007. I also met Florence’s daughter and her family for the first time as well. There are two occasions where people meet each other are at funerals and weddings , I guess.

This Miri trip was a lightning visit but was a pleasant trip , thanks to Lesley who put me up in her house for the night . This is so kind of her to do so . We saw a program on ASTRO on Kentucky Fried Chicken and how the business started so we ordered KFC for Saturday night dinner through Grab because both of us was really too lazy to move . I haven’t eaten KFC for ages so that was just fine .

That ends my weekend trip to Miri . I do not know when I will go next to Miri . Hoping that Lesley will make a trip to KL sometime so that I can bring her as an outing to the Muar house .
