Today, went out abit late . Had a quick breakfast at home of idli & coconut chutney & samber ( spicy )
Only ate 2 but that was good enough.
Then we took an auto ( 3 wheeler ) to see the Charminar, the iconic landmark for Hyderabad . The landmark was build in the late 15Century and has been restored.
Interesting structure and an iconic landmark for Hyderabad. This was build by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591. This structure is older than the Taj Mahal.
I did not climb up the towers but I did see many people who did. Behind the Charminar is the Mecca Masjid where the tombs of the Nizams are.
The gates leading to Mecca Masjid Tombs of the Nizams. Had to walk barefoot. This is India so the floor was dirty , had pigeon poos . Walked on it and what else . Haha . But it did not take away the grandeur of mausoleum of the Nizams. There are 6 Nizams buried here out of the 8 Nizam’s included the 8th Nizam who died in year 2023.Inside the masjid Chandeliers were covered. Chandeliers from Belgium . I was not allowed to go into the mosque.
Made a small donation for the restoration of the masjid . The Nizams are Muslims . Orginally, they are from Samarkand .
Ablution place but water had pigeons , water did not look cleanCharminar from Mecca Masjid Outside the museum. Some restoration work in progress
After visiting the Masjid, we set of in an auto ( 3 wheeler vehicle ) to the H.E.H Nizam’s Museum ( H.E.H means the His Exalted Highness. I was trying to figure it out the meaning but Sharmila told me haha ) . The buildings belong to the Mukkaram Jah Trust .Mukkaram Jah is the 8th Nizam. The museum part from the outside looks abit run down. Inside were the Nizam’s private collections of artifacts . His collections of jewellery ( diamonds, gold etc are in the vault of the Reserve Bank of India) .
Marble lion at the entrance of the museumNot sure which number of Nizam he was In the Museum Liked this piece of furniture. Could put ornaments & knick knacks . Also, liked this simple table. Wood is solid .Charminar in ivory One of the Nizams, do not know which one. Arabic script .Liked this nonscript chair . Nds proper restoration , sturdy enough to sit on though. Able to sit on it comfortably .Marble top table a bit too big for my dining room , alas hehehe The ancestry of the Nizams starting from 15 43. They were pro British .The last nizam ( 9th never ascended to the throne ) , was Mukkarram Jah (1967 ) . He was the 8th Nizam.Liked all these antiquated cabinets in the museumGuess what this room is for ?His H.E.H walkin wardrobe !!Aspirational walk-in wardrobe !! Ok, thats my aspirational walk-in wardrobe Liked this little piece that fitted the alcove. This piece had holes in which the pots were put in place. I assume this is a potted plant stand . Lovely ! Crystal glass hooka – amazing piece
Intrigued by the Nizams of Hyderabad . I need to read more on them . Also on Hyderabad as a city because there are strong Islamic influence in the old city of Hyderabad amidst a Hindu majority . There is also a Persian influence in the old city of Hyderabad . Possibly due to Persian Shia Qutb Shahi dynasty in the 16th century. Really interesting . The 7th Nizam was the richest man in the world . He appeared in the Times magazine and estimated wealth of 238billion. He ruled from 1911 till 1948. This was until the princely state was annexed by India.
I need to buy a book on the Nizam’s of Hyderabad . I am so intrigued by this dynasty and the historical roots of Hyderabad as a princely state.
