The beginning of a journey

This is my first attempt to blog as a document on my renovation for the house in Muar . Also , to de-stress I suspect about doing up the house .

There are 2 dwellings on a land that is approximately 1 1/2 acres .There is a main house with 3 small bedrooms , 2 bathrooms and a kitchen . There is a small living room cum dining room . A outhouse ( “rumah kebun” ) behind the main house where all the gardening tools are kept . The kebun ( orchard) itself is on 1 acre of land with various types of fruit trees and is fenced behind the main house .

The house from the main road that leads from Muar to Batu Pahat . I rather like the red brick . The front garden is overgrown with 4 “mata kuching” trees . The “kebun” ( orchard ) is at the back with a fence . The house had belonged to my late aunt and uncle . My uncle had died earlier than my aunt who had been bedridden for maybe 2-3 years so nobody have lived in the house for maybe I reckon 5 years . There is a rather forlorn air about the house .

Title of the land was signed on January 15, 2023 making the land & house mine . I have been thinking of how to productively use the house so that in a way , the house can pay by itself at least in terms of costs of maintenance.

There are “Mata Kuching ” ( local longan) trees at the front garden that needs to be be destroyed as the roots were spilling over the drains around the house . The fruits were also not sweet because not enough nutrients from the soil . Hopefully , when two trees are cut down , the remaining two trees left will be able to borne sweet mata kuching fruits.

The garden of the house was a horror ! The weeds and undergrowth had taken over the garden as photos below shows. Looks like a “ghost” house !

The front and back garden being cleared . The shrubs at the right-hand side of the front garden are all dead and needed to be cleared up . The garden had to be cleared before any reno work can be done to the house.

The garden ( front & back ) being cleared up ! Got Encik Rahman to do this and really would not know what to do if he is not around !

This is the end of today’s blog post.

Enjoy this wonderful journey dear Zorah. Try to keep the home as much in its original state. It will become a lovely home I am sure with book cases lined with books, lighting with old fashioned lamp shades and side tables. Look for old style furniture too. 4 poster beds with mosquito netting etc..
