Nubian Village at Aswan

We stayed a night at Ana kato Nubian Houses, before flying from Aswan to Cairo . This is like a boutique hotel comprising of 5 bedrooms . There is another premise which had 7 bedrooms under the same hotel. The road into the Nubian village before the old dam of Aswan, was not a tarred road . We were pretty skeptical at the state of the hotel because of the access road into the village was dicey . Nubians are an ethnic race of people who speak their own language . This language is only oral not written . Nubian lands are in Southern Egypt that stretches from Aswan to Northern Sudan . When the Egyptian government build the resevoir and new dam at Aswan , much of the Nubian lands were submerged underwater. They goverment had to relocate the Nubian people to villages and other areas in Egypt . Of course, the Nubian people are not happy with this as they were traditionally fishermen .

Bazaar at the Nubian Village , with camels. These are the roads buzzing with cars, tuk-tuks and camels !!
Camel rides for tourists
Bazaar selling all kinds of stuff
Nubian woman balancing something on her head
3 of us infront of the hotel . The vibrant colors has an African feel to it .

Some of the Nubians relocated to Sudan . Nubians are dark skin ( like Africans ) , broad nose and have very curly hair more akin to Africans than Arabs .

In the hallway of hotel
We had our own private balcony overlooking the Nile

Our scrumptious Nubian dinner !! They eat alot of beans here .
Part of the decor
Rahiyah in hallway
Relaxing on our own balcony . Aswan is cold like 15c .
Rahiyah’s bed that leads to our bedroom. Isn’t this kinda quaint ?
View of the Nile from hotel.
Our balcony with a table . Had tea .
Decor on doors . Colorful .
Walking to breakfast spot in a separate building . 2 mins walk .
Sitting down while waiting for our meal.
Open dining
This is the other premise that had 7 bedrooms .
You can take a boat cruise for a couple of hours on the Nile .
A rare snake heron that we spotted when we were eating breakfast . Isn’t it just lovely !

There were many birds . Really an enchanting place. The rooms had modern conveniences like hot water ,flushed toilets and was very clean Aswan is chilly around 15C . Everyone told us that it will be warmer in Aswan as compared to Cairo but that is not true !

The desert behind the village . Maybe thats why its cold in winter.

I am writing a longer blog because I m laying in bed in Saliha’s flat in Bahrain hahaha. Flight early tomorrow morning from Bahrain to Doha to catch the Malaysia Airlines flight from Doha back to KL ( sigh ).
