We started driving to Matera which is approximately 65 km away. I drove and Rahiyah navigated which worked fine . We used the highway to get to Matera and considering the traffic was quite good .

We had to park elsewhere as Matera is ZTL zone so we did that. We got a shuttle bus to the Sassi ( the old part of Matera) .

The stone caves and houses are just to be seen to be believed ! Alot of uneven stone steps so need to be careful when walking. The town is habitable as there are people living there . A few hotels and Airbnbs.

Matera is a UNESCO world heritage site. James Bond film ” No time to die” starring Daniel Craig was filmed here .

It was quite breezy , around 21 c but as I start walking, it got warmer .

We walked to an old chuch build in the 12century.

There was some kind of music rehearsal taking place for an event held later that evening .

Then we met two friendly cats so could not resist taking a picture of these cats . They were obviously used to people .

Then we took the shuttle bus back to the car park which was a 10 minutes ride ( per ticket was €1.50 but would have been cheaper if we downloaded the app and bought it online but did not bother ).

We went back to old bari to search for a fast food shop to eat our dinner. The accomodation in Bari had no communal kitchen because it is just a bed & breakfast .

Never eaten fried octopus before but its yummy . Each dish cost us €10 each . Rahiyah says thats cheap. Maybe by London standards la ! However, have not seen octopus being sold in thevwet markets in Malaysia. Only squid, cuttle fish and prawns . That ends our day. Was   knackered as we got back at 9 pm . The funny thing , we left the car at Park & Ride carpark in Bari but somehow the automatic barrier could not come up . Thank gawd the guy was there and he let us through ( after asking us where we were from and winking at us, these Italians.. really ah ) as we had paid already .

Car park for the whole day was only €1 and its open 24 hrs !
