We decided to go and look at those Trullo ( singular ) houses at Alberobello , which is about 1 hour drive from Bari . Its not too far .

A little history on Trulli houses are traditional limestone dwellings with iconic conical roofs built without mortar, originating thousands of years ago in the Apulia region of southern Italy. Today, the  Trulli houses in Alberobello feature over 1,500 historic structures and earned UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1996.

There was some kind of parade from the Church and a open air Sunday market . I was driving so the area that we were driving were dotted with Trullis .

Its like a toy town. Many of the trulles were holiday lets. However , from my readings is that the really interesting thing is that trulli were originally ordinary rural homes, not luxury accommodation. Families lived in them, often with several interconnected cone-roofed rooms.

Those thick limestone walls are surprisingly useful in Puglia’s climate — cooler inside during hot summers and retaining warmth in winter.

Saw some really old looking olive trees but I was driving and could not stop to take photos . The roads are B roads like old roads in Malaysia but in good condition. We did join the highways , dual carriage roads. Just noticed that on these highways , slip roads were small & the exits and entrances of the slip road to join the highway was quite short in length . Need to be extra careful when joining the highways especially . Then we took a drive to Monopoli which is on the way to Bari .

We did not linger at Monopoli . Missed the tourist choo-choo train at Monopoli . Could not find the station where the train starts . Since we only put 1 hour on the meter where we parked our car so we thought we might have time to come back again to Monopoli before flying off to Palermo .

We did come home today by 6 pm so thats early ! Haha
