Masseria La Chuisa 7th October, 2026

We got the car at Palermo Airport . Then we proceeded to drive to Masseria La Chuisa which is not really remote as it is a 45 minutes drive from Palermo .The lady at the rental car company was very cheerful haha . She asked me how far is Malaysia . After saying how many hours I flew, she concluded that it is nearer from Italy to fly to USA hahaha . Then we drove to the Masseria ( this is usually a fortified  large farmhouse / manor /) ,drove  into a wrong road. The road was awful but managed to arrive haha

Olive trees

This is an old Masseria which is has been 500 years old . It is in the San Jato Valley . The hills are limestone hills and its still a working farm. The limestone hills are greyish/whitish  which are different from the limestone at Bukut Takun because of the climate . Mediterrean climate is dryer and as a result vegetation is sparse. While limestone in tropical  climate is lush with vegetation and therefore color of the limestone is different which is dark grey and full of vegetation . I can reconize the limestone, just the color is different here .

Olive groves but masseria does have cows too

The view above is from our verandah so its quite a view .

At night . Its not exactly remote, just in the country side . Been in more remote places in Borneo haha . This is actually quite civilized .

I wanted to buy the farm’s olive oil but alas, they only got 5 litre tins ( which I would love to buy ) but the logistics of lugging 5 litre is beyond me !

Yesterday we stayed at the pool . I swam and water is cold . Such a contrast to my condo pool where the water is warm
Had a swim and relaxed
The terrain is hilly so the pool is walking down from where our unit was
My 2 girl friends relaxing but did not swim !!

Jannet got bitten by bed bugs so we had to change the unit from a 2 bedroom unit with kitchen to a smaller unit . It was a bit cramped this smaller unit but no bed bugs . Not sure how the bed bugs got into that bigger unit. Jannet still unwell so we took it easy today which is really fine with me . The masseria offers breakfast ( everything is home made ) . Dinner is offered too but we only had one dinner because they served pork last night’s dinner .

This is the courtyard . Its really quite rustic .
I like this kitchen table
Love this stencilled cupboard
Dining hall, very barn like
Our much better rented car, Kia Sportage
Olive Groves surronding the property

We all pretty tired so we cooked dinner by using the oven with the fish we brought . Haha. That ends another day .
