Valetta

Got on a bus that took us all the way around to the surburbs and then only to Valetta bus terminus . Our fault because we assumed that the bus would take us straightaway to Valetta . The bus was the right bus but wrong direction haha. It was ok because the bus driver told us the bus will go back to Valetta bus terminus . So sat in the bus and had a look at the surburbs & houses haha. Some of the streets are narrow & two way !!

Valetta itself is an old city with fascinating architecture . Malta gained independance from the UK in 1964 through a series of political negotiations like Malaysia but qualifying statement is that we only became Malaysia in 1963 and had communist insurgency and turmoil while Malta did not . Valetta is a beautiful city and the old part is quite walkable .

View of the port from Upper Barakka Gardens . This was the port that the car ferry came in so there is a deep harbour .
Cruise ships at port
Super yatchs
Missed the gun salute but weather was lovely

Malta is Med island. However, while walking , saw brands such as the Body Shop, L’Ocittane , HSBC so feels like the UK but not quite . Its not really Italian which Sicily is so maybe in my mind its a “watered down UK “. People here speak English as it is an official language . Many British tourists too . Valetta is a beautiful town but I am not sure I quite like Malta . I liked Sicily and Puglia because there is a distinct identity to each region and being Italian , of course .
