Meeting Ana & Sarah in Catania, 26 October, 2026

Took a flight from Malta back to Catania, Sicily . In retrospect , my planning of this part of the trip is off . I should have just did Catania first then to Siracusa then taken to Malta as the last leg. Instead the last stop is Catania , sigh . Oh well…

Catania accomodation on the 6th floor overlooks the open markets

Went to the open air markets which stretches into the wet markets selling fish, vegetables , herbs, meats etc. So of course end up buying food stuff to cook as the accomodation ( a studio )has its kitchen . Lo and behold , went walking to the main shopping street which is a 5 minute walk, guess who we met at L’erbolario shop .

Had dinner with Ana, Sarah & Rahiyah
Bought fresh ravioli with fresh pesto bought from Lidl supermarket haha
We had bought boiled octopus ( polpo) and fresh swordfish at the market so that waspart of dinner

Then we walked back to Ana’s & Sarah’s B&B which is in the older part of Catania. It is already dark here by 5.15 pm by the time we walked back to Ana’s B&B.

Passed by this church at the Piazza Duomo

Ana & Sarah’s B&B has quite a character. The B&B has an Edwardian kind of feeling to it , somehow , even when being in Italy.

It is an B&B because they just got an en-suite bedroom but no kitchen facilities and no washing machine.

Communal area of a pantry where there is tea/ coffee facilities and cookies to help yourself
Drawing room ? Its kinda quirky
The ceiling above. Looks unfinished but according to Sarah maybe deliberately so to add character to the place
Smiling Sarah , she is so sweet. She is done with her Master’s at Imperial so she is not looking forward to going home as she got to look for a job
The wall full of pictures framed
Wall paper
This covers the tv. Thought what a good idea . Its just a silk cloth .
Cornices in the ceiling

The B&B has only 4 en-suite bedrooms tastefully done. It is in an old house because entrance is through a big wooden door in which the ground floor is where during olden times, the horses and carriage would be. People in those days do not live on the ground floor as it was probably too smelly . Therefore, they lived upstairs. Ana& Sarah’s B&B was on the second floor with no lift or elevator. This is a big deal when there is heavy luggage to lug up !! Sarah does this for their luggage but the flight of stairs had a landing in between floors so maybe not too bad because you can rest midway ! Hahaha.

Gosh, the logistics of heavy luggage needs to be thought out carefully , actually . That ends our day and we promised to meet Ana & Sarah again on Wednesday , the 28th October before they fly to Malta.
